Emiliano Mercado del Toro, aged 115, has died in his home in Puerto Rico.
Mercado del Toro was technically a WWI veteran. He was drafted into the U.S. army in 1918, but the war ended while he was still undergoing his training.
After the war, he worked in the sugar-cane fields of Puerto Rico.
He was married three times but did not father any children.
Mercado del Toro's status as the world's oldest person was short-lived; he attained this status just last month after Elizabeth Bolden of Tennessee, aged 116, died.
Emma Faust Tillman of Connecticut now assumes the role of the world's oldest person at age 114.
